Breast biopsy provides answers.

A breast biopsy is the removal of breast tissue to examine it for signs of breast cancer or other disorders. Different types of biopsy may be done. One type called stereotactic breast biopsy uses mammography to help pinpoint the spot in the breast that needs to be removed.

At the Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness, we offer different types of breast biopsies to provide the most accurate diagnosis. Our highly trained physicians will determine which method of tissue sampling is best suited to meet your needs. The type of biopsy is determined by the location of the lesion and which modality provides the best visualization.

• Ultrasound Guided Core Biopsy- Ultrasound is used to provide real time visualization of the area being sampled.
• Fine Needle Aspiration- A slender needle is used to remove fluid or a small amount of tissue from a breast lump.
• Stereotactic Biopsy- This technique uses mammography and a computer to guide a needle into an area of abnormal tissue or group of suspicious calcifications.
• Needle Localization- A thin needle is inserted into the breast. A wire is then passed through to point to the area that needs to be surgically removed.
