Diagnostic Imaging
Griffin Hospital’s Radiology Department will be offering its patients advanced MRI capabilities by providing new and expanded MRI services using the Siemens 1.5T MAGNETOM Aera system.
The MAGNETOM Aera combines a high-field-strength magnet with an extra wide entry design to produce exams that have exquisite detail. The result is a relaxed and comfortable experience for patients and increased clinical confidence for clinicians.
In our continued efforts to offer convenient hours to our patients, MRI appointments are now being offered offered Sunday through Friday.

Diagnostic Radiology & Medical Imaging at Griffin Hospital
State-of-the-art imaging in a personalized and healing environment.
Griffin Hospital’s Department of Radiology has continually invested in the best diagnostic imaging equipment to insure that we provide cutting-edge technology. We employ only board certified, state licensed professionals to ensure that we consistently produce high quality examinations. Our board certified Radiologists work within their respective departments to interpret exams in a timely manner, thereby providing you and your physician with results as quickly as possible.
By offering an open MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) unit, Griffin is able to accommodate those patients who experience anxiety or claustrophobia with traditional MRI while not sacrificing the image results. The unit, a Hitachi Oasis 1.2 Tesla open MRI, produces excellent imaging results in a calming, comfortable environment.
The Radiology Department offers patients state-of-the-art mammography screening, ultrasound, PET (Positron Emission Tomography) Scans, MRI and CT Scans in pleasing environment.
Griffin’s 128-slice GE Optima 660 computed tomography system (CT Scan) provides unparalleled imaging quality and reduces the patient’s time in the scanner. Griffin’s 128-slice scanner was the first installed in Connecticut, and allows doctors to simultaneously capture multiple wafer-thin images of a patient’s anatomy within seconds, shaving minutes off the exam time. The system provides exceptionally high-resolution images that help doctors to more accurately diagnose patients than ever before.
We are very proud of the fact that many of our Diagnostic Imaging Departments are credentialed by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The following areas are ACR certified:
- CT
- Mammography
- MRI
- Nuclear Cardiology (SPECT Imaging)
- Nuclear Medicine: General Planar Imaging
- PET
- Ultrasound: Breast
- Ultrasound: General
