Griffin Hospital is celebrating International Infection Prevention Week (Oct. 13-19, 2024) with the launch of enhanced hand hygiene initiatives.
International Infection Prevention Week celebrates the significance of infection prevention and raises awareness about the importance of patient safety in providing exceptional care.
Hand hygiene is a critical component of infection prevention. According to the World Health Organization, appropriate hand hygiene prevents up to 50% of avoidable infections acquired during healthcare delivery, including those affecting caregivers.
To ensure its patients and caregivers are protected from infection, Griffin Hospital introduced enhanced hand hygiene practices, including reinforced training, improved recognition of patient zones, and increased monitoring of handwashing practices with the advanced BioVigil system.
The BioVigil system, which features a badge worn by caregivers that indicates when a caregiver’s hands are clean, strengthens accountability for hand hygiene. BioVigil also empowers patients to actively participate in infection control by allowing them to know if their caregivers have completed proper handwashing practices before and after every patient interaction.
