
That’s It! Learn to Quit! Free Tobacco & Nicotine Cessation Program
That’s It! Learn to Quit! is Griffin Health’s free 6-week program which provides tobacco/nicotine cessation education and guidance in a supportive and compassionate group setting. Participants will learn how to adopt an individualized tobacco/nicotine quit plan. That’s It, Learn to Quit is for both first timers trying to quit and for anyone who has quit in the past and wants to re-visit living without nicotine and tobacco.
Here are a few key educational objectives and topics discussed in this program:
Nicotine
- How nicotine affects the body
- How to break free of nicotine addiction
- Health effects of nicotine use and how the body can heal once quit
Medicinal Support
- Tips on how to speak with your doctor
- Benefits, contraindications, and dosage education for nicotine replacement therapy
- Discussion of other medicinal options to help curb nicotine cravings
Behavior Change
- Self-evaluation & problem-solving class activities
- Self-care & self-compassion; reframing negative self-talk
- Mindfulness techniques: meditation, visualization, breathing, and setting daily intentions with positive affirmations
- Nicotine craving & trigger management
- Creating a quit plan, setting a quit start date & establishing sustainable healthy lifestyle behavior
- Lifestyle behavior education is provided for nutrition, physical activity, sleep, & stress management
- Weekly activities (free writing, music therapy, shared readings) self-beliefs that bring happiness and strength to stay tobacco/nicotine free
- Weekly discussion & self-reflection of loss of tobacco/nicotine relationship, fear of using again, and how to deal with a slip
This session meets Mondays May 5, 12, 19, and 26, and June 2 and 9 from 10-11:30 a.m. at The Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave., Derby, CT.
