Dr. Anthony Viola is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon with expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal fusions, and treating degenerative spine conditions such as ruptured discs. Dr. Viola’s surgical practice also includes treating adult scoliosis, spinal oncology, and traumatic spine injuries.
Dedicated to a holistic approach, Dr. Viola crafts individualized treatment plans, emphasizing non-surgical methods whenever possible and reserving surgery as a last resort. Dr. Viola completed his orthopedic spine fellowship at the University of Connecticut, gaining expertise in advanced minimally invasive and robotic spine surgery, as well as augmented reality-assisted surgical technology. He completed his residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he served as chief resident and was honored with awards such as Resident of the Year. Dr. Viola earned his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was inducted into the honor society, following an undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut.
An active contributor to the field, Dr. Viola has authored chapters and peer-reviewed articles on spine and orthopedic surgery and frequently presents at regional and national conferences. He has also developed training lectures for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) to support the next generation of medical professionals.
In his free time, Dr. Viola enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and their dog, Poppy. He enjoys golfing, surfing, playing the guitar, and traveling; especially to his home state of Maine in the summertime. He is an avid UConn Huskies basketball fan.
