Michael Lipcan, MD, Chief of Gastroenterology

Dr. Lipcan is a highly skilled gastroenterologist with more than 20 years of experience caring for patients in New Haven County. He recently served as a partner for Connecticut Gastroenterology Consultants and is an assistant professor in Digestive Diseases at Yale University School of Medicine. He has been named a Top Doc by CT Magazine from 2021-24. In addition to being a gastroenterologist at Griffin Faculty Physicians, he will also serve as Griffin Hospital’s Chief of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Lipcan specializes in evaluating and treating the full spectrum of diseases and conditions involving the digestive system, including heartburn, indigestion, ulcers, Barrett’s esophagus, diarrhea, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, celiac disease, ulcerative colitis, liver disease and the management and prevention of colon polyps and cancer.

Dr. Lipcan holds a degree in biochemistry from Vassar College in New York and medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Boston University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident, and a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and is a licensed surgeon in Connecticut.

Dr. Lipcan has a love for science and finds it personally rewarding to pair the science of medicine with creating meaningful patient relationships. He is an accomplished researcher and been invited to share his work at forums and symposiums. He has published several papers on gastroenterology in medical magazines and journals.
