Back injuries are among the most expensive of musculoskeletal disorders in industrialized nations, and one of the most common work related ailments affecting adults in the United States. Every year, 50% of the working population will experience back pain. Much like pre-employment physicals ensure a physical capacity to work, a back screen checks prospective employees’ capacity for positions that require lifting.

During a back screen the physical therapist will test prospective employees’ capacity for lifting and provide extensive education on proper body mechanics. In addition to identifying employees who are at increased risk for work related injuries, a back screen can assist in preventing future injuries from occurring.
